Crossroads by Paige Matthews...

Hi there, y'all! Here's a little snippet about Crossroads, the newest erotic romance from the incredibly talented Paige Matthews, who brought us the scintillating Devoured Club series of BDSM novels.

Synopsis:

Everyone finds themselves at a crossroads in their life.
Caleb Cross is not your typical front man. His is not the bad boy, partying, love ‘em and leave ‘em persona, although his public image states otherwise. Being the lead singer of the popular rock band Double Cross, there are a lot of things the fans and the public do not know about Caleb. Sure, he likes to have a little fun now and again, but after a publicity stunt goes wrong, he is determined to shed the ultra-bad boy image.

Katherine "Kat" Summers is not a typical woman. Not a girl who gets star struck or easily impressed, Kat is content with being herself and who she is. When Kat's company is hired by Caleb Cross to rebrand him, she finds herself re-evaluating everything she knows about herself and about her life. Trying to maintain who she is against what she begins to desire, proves to be difficult for her.

For Caleb, hiring a new publicist to help reshape his image was the easy part. What he didn’t count on was being reunited with the one girl that made him question everything about himself. He’s forced to confront himself once more, in order to learn what he truly wants, and who he truly is.

And here's a little excerpt, to whet your appetite! :)

The bath water had turned lukewarm and I decided it was time to get out. I dried myself off and dressed into a pair of bed shorts and tank top. I was just getting into bed when I heard my cell phone ring; the personal one, not the work one. Only a few people in my world had access to that number; my father, Margaret and my best friend Carly.

“Hello,” I said without even looking at the caller id.

Well, well, well, such an informal greeting for your new client.” The voice froze me. Caleb! How the hell does this man keep wiggling his way into my life?

“How did you get this number? No one has this number,” I said as I started to pace my bedroom, trying to keep my voice low.
“Your father. I want access to you, and I will have it. Now, Kat…”

“Katherine. My name is Katherine,” I interrupted him.

“Katherine,” he purred. I swore my pussy clenched at the sound. Jesus. Why does he do this to me?

“What do you want, Mr. Cross? It is nearly midnight and I was about to go to bed.” My fingers were drumming against my thigh as I waited for his answer, wearing a path in my carpet.

“Just to hear your voice, Kat. I mean Katherine.”

What the fuck kind of game are you playing Mr. Cross?” My patience was wearing thin. I was exhausted and not in the mood to deal with his mind games.

“Caleb. You will call me Caleb, understood?” There was a change in the intensity of his voice.

“Mr…Caleb, what are you trying to accomplish?” I took a deep breath trying to calm my nerves; my fingers still drumming away.

“Just to get to know my new publicist.” His voice deepened now and I wondered what he was thinking about. I heard some voices in the background and then the covering of the phone. Fuck this.

“Well, you can call between the hours of eight a.m. and five p.m. for those conversations. I have to go.”

“You are my publicist and I will have access to you whenever I want.” The voices in the background got louder and I could make out they were female.

“You know what Caleb. Fuck you. How dare you call me at this hour when you clearly are busy? Goodnight!” I hung up before I could hear his response. Who the hell did he think he was?

My phone rang back immediately. I denied the call and proceeded to turn it off, along with my work phone. Any emergencies could be handled in the morning. I wasn’t ready for the shit storm Caleb Cross was going to bring to my life.

Paige's bio:

I grew up in a small, idyllic affluent town in the Western part of Connecticut, USA. The town definitely did not match my personality. My high school years were filled with the proverbial teenage fun, although not too much by me. I stayed close to home and pursued my B.A. in English Comparative Literature from a local college and then continued on for my M.A in English Professional Writing. I have always had a love for reading and literature and only furthered that during my studies. During my M.A. studies I decided it was time to challenge myself and work in a field that I have long admired and dreamt off: being a writer.

Having entered the lifestyle a few years ago, I write erotica with a preference toward BDSM themes. I enjoy exploring the emotional connection and emotions behind the D/s relationship, and why we like what we like.

Dominate Me - Cover reveal

I think I'm a little late with this one, but here goes:

Synopsis:

Devlin Fitzpatrick is a man of few words. Usually. An expert in surveillance and security, and a Dominant at Devoured, Devlin is known for his authoritative ways. After making the decision to observe rather than participate, and hiding from feelings and desires only few know about, Devlin throws himself into his work, and away from the practice of the lifestyle - that is, until he meets Ally. A chance encounter sets a new fire burning inside of Devlin - one that, up until then, has been absent. But, just as their relationship flares, a face from Devlin’s past returns, re-igniting long-subdued desires.

Ally O’Conner was not looking for a man - especially one like Devlin. Yet, the mysterious, gorgeous, and dominant stranger becomes the one person Ally didn’t know she was seeking. As Devlin opens Ally’s world up to hidden emotions and uncharted desires, Ally quickly finds herself falling, even though she knows Devlin is hiding something from her: desires or needs she is unsure of. When a stranger calls, looking for Devlin’s help, Ally begins to fear the worst as he begins to pull away.

Aiden MacCarrick has spent the last few years bouncing from place to place - drumming up work wherever he can. After a job gone wrong, Aiden finds himself on the wrong side of the bullet. With no other choice, Aiden reaches out to the one person he knows can help him.
As Devlin works to clear Aiden of a misunderstanding, and save his life in the process, the three of them are entwined in a foreign world of deep desires, unbidden wants and uncharted feelings. Can they find a happy resolution to their desperate situation, or will their emotions dominate them?

Other Systems - Elizabeth Guizzetti - Book Review

Having been dragged up on science fiction and epic fantasy, I tend to keep my eyes open for any promising new authors in those genres. I do that so I don't inadvertently miss something really impressive, or inspirational, or exciting.  Other Systems by Elizabeth Guizzetti is all of those - and more. I truly believe she is one of the greatest new talents in science fiction today - and here is why...

Science fiction is both one of the most difficult and one of the most maligned genres in which an author can work. Why do I say that? Because the task of the author has additional multiple challenges that other genres don't have. Biggest of these, and usually the most ridiculed, is the ability to make and keep the "science" believable, understandable, and realistic within given laws of astrophysics. Fail on any of these three facets, and your readers will lose interest, and your critics lambast you with your egregious errors.

Then there is the challenge of building and populating not one, but multiple "worlds", and keeping each one distinct enough to avoid confusion and make them interesting enough to register with the reader. The term "worlds" here doesn't just mean different planets, because, essentially, every space craft out there is its own unique world, with different "lands" - bridge, engine room, labs, sick bays - did you ever watch Star Trek? Novelists in other genres usually only have one world to deal with - Earth.

And then there is the back story and plot. Yes - these are challenges for all novelists, but it's very easy for the sci-fi author to compromise on the quality and scope of their storylines by getting too involved in their other challenges, resulting in a weak plot strung together on the other elements.

In Other Systems, Elizabeth Guizzetti brings all of these facets, and more, together in a superb new masterpiece of the genre. Her world-building skills are phenomenal, as she takes us to not just one or two, but a whole series of new and unique worlds, some highly populated with homo sapiens and various descendant species, and others populated with true alien life-forms. Then there is her science - sharp, detailed, deep, and understandable. Yes, there's the jargon - but it's kept to a minimum, and what is there is clearly explained so the reader doesn't feel either overwhelmed OR under-informed. These achievements alone make the story interesting and complex.

And then we have the story itself. This builds on themes introduced by Arthur C. Clarke (yes - it's that good) in The Songs of Distant Earth, dealing with the interactions between new worlds populated by Humankind on their exodus from an otherwise compromised home planet, and that home planet. On a hugely over-populated Earth, we meet Abby Boyd Lei and her family, whose daily routines are suddenly disrupted by the arrival of a fleet of transport ships from the distant colony of Kipos, where they are seeking a huge influx of human genome in order to prevent their civilization from dying out. Abby and her siblings and friends are sold a story of a wonderful new life, that will give them the opportunity to grow and develop in a rich, new world that will provide them all the pleasures and joys they could never hope to find on the over-crowded, decaying Earth.

As is to be expected, the reality is far from the truth. After their sub-light speed voyage to Kipos, Abby is ruthlessly torn from her younger sister, and her brother and friend are no where to be seen. She is taken by one of the elite families of the civilization, as breeding stock, and is abused and humiliated, kept in a drugged and duped state. I will not detail all of Abby's horrors here - buy the book if you want to know the full story - but she eventually escapes to join a deep space exploration ship, and build her way into their lives and their love, showing her true worth.  This part of the book is reminiscent of Out of the Silent Planet by C.S. Lewis, as we encounter numerous new worlds and new life forms, all the while with the spectre of betrayal or discovery, which would send her back to Kipos, and the life she had escaped from - or worse.

Guizzetti's writing is stimulating and interesting, and her ability to knit all of her back stories together is both skillful and inspiring. Her story brings us back to the considerations that will be faced by a future, aging, over-populated Earth, and the achievements, and the perils, that await us. A wonderful, wonderful book, well worth the read.

Dawn Robertson is a twenty-something romance author and mother. She lives in sunny senior-citizen packed Florida, where she wrangles her kids, and Pitbull puppy.
Dawn can normally be found swearing like a sailor, making late night drive-thru appearances, arguing with her kids (or being run over by their power wheels), reading a steamy romance while hiding in her bathroom, writing her little heart out on her laptop (or dragging her Macbook to the Genius bar praying they can save her latest work in progress), or sipping on a smoothie. She loves to hear from her fans, readers, and authors alike. Feel free to drop her a message.
Dawn rarely takes life seriously, so be sure to expect heavy sarcasm from her. She is also the life of the party, so be sure to meet up with her at one of the many author events she will be attending in the next couple months. Buy her a shot of whiskey, and she will love you for life.

Blurb:

Everyone finds themselves at a crossroad in their life.

Caleb Cross is not your typical front man. He is not the bad boy, partying, love 'em and leave 'em persona, although his public image states otherwise. Being the lead singer of the popular rock band, Double Cross, there are a lot of things the fans and the public do not know about Caleb. Katherine "Kat" Summers is not a typical woman. Not the kind of girl who gets star struck or easily impressed, Kat is content on being herself, who she is. Kat enjoys living in the moment, in both her personal and professional life. Her greatest moment - bedding rock star Caleb Cross, a secret she holds onto to this day. When Kat's company is hired by Caleb Cross to rebrand him, she finds herself testing everything she has known about herself and about her life. Trying to maintain who she is against what she begins to desire, proves to be difficult for Kat, especially when she sees Caleb as he truly is.

Excerpt:

I grabbed my sunglasses from my dresser on the way back to the living room. Kat was sitting on the couch facing the television, head to her thighs. I watched her breath for a few moments, watched her back rise and fall. She was gorgeous, even if she didn’t realize it herself. I felt my chest tighten and my breath catch, as I watched her. I shook off the feelings, and grabbed my keys. “You ready to go?”

She looked up and wiped her eyes. “I guess so.” She stood up and began to walk toward me. I grabbed her face into my hands, and wiped the rest of the tears off her cheeks. I lifted her face to look at me.

“Why were you crying?” I stared into her eyes.

“No reason." She tried to turn her head away from mine, but I held her in place.

“Tell me why you were crying.”

“It’s really not a problem for you to deal with. I said everything was fine.” I could tell that she was uncomfortable. Why, I didn’t really know, but I would find out.

“You were crying, Kat. Something is wrong. Now tell me what had you crying.” I moved her against the wall, and crouched down so that we were eye level with each other.

Kat took a deep breath in, and diverted her eyes everywhere but at me.

“Katherine, tell me what is wrong.” I grabbed her face gently, and forced her to look at me.

“I messed up. That’s it. Nothing you need to worry about.”

Tears formed at the corner of her eyes again, and she looked away. I took her face into my hands again, and brushed my finger over her bottom lip, staring my way into those green irises, hoping I could read her mind. God, I just want to pick her up, throw her on my bed, and make love to her until tomorrow. Instead, I fused my lips to hers, coercing her lips to open with my tongue, so that I could explore her mouth. The sweet taste of her sent my dick straight up. I mapped out her mouth with my tongue, noticing hers exploring back. I felt her body relax, and her hands moved through my hair as I deepened the kiss, pushing her up against the wall with my body, pinning her hips with mine. I tilted her head back and to the side, allowing myself access to her neck, kissing a trail up and down her collar bone and back up to her ears. Reluctantly, I pulled back, placing another quick kiss on her lips.

“You seriously don’t know what you do to me. The control I lose around you. Let’s go, before I lose every ounce of what is left and take you into my room to fuck you senseless.” I grabbed her hand before she could reply, replaced my hat on my head, and walked out the door. We reached the elevator, and I pushed the button for the garage level; still holding her hand, I pulled her close to me. Kat still hadn’t said anything about the kiss, although I could feel her attraction, her arousal, during it. She wanted it as much as I did, or, at least, I thought she did.

We reached the lot and my reserved spots. I decided to take the bike. I could park it easily enough and I wanted to feel her arms wrapped around my waist as we veered in and out of New York traffic. My dick responded at the thought. I handed her a helmet, and sat on the bike, waiting for her to sit behind me.

“Come on, angel, let’s go.”

Kat didn’t move.

“Something wrong?”

“Um. No. Nothing’s wrong. I was just thinking of something, and I’ve never ridden on a bike before.” She was apprehensive, a bit scared. I thought back to our first meeting, and smiled. I knew what she was remembering. This was the same bike that I’d rested against, waiting for her to come out of the bar. I’d had it shipped up the week prior to us arriving. If anything, I wanted to go for a ride.

“Just get on and hold me tight. I’ll do the rest.Trust me.” I winked at her, and held out my hand to help her on. She jumped on and pushed her bag between us, as she wrapped her arms around my waist. I double checked she had her helmet on, and I started the bike. This was going to be fun. Kat tightened her grasp around my waist as I pulled out into traffic. The breeze blowing against my face was a bit cool, but refreshing. I decided to take her to a little boutique that sold the style of clothing that I was looking for. It helped that I was good friends with the owner, Mel. The boutique was small, and out of the way in Chelsea. From first glance, a person might miss it, but I knew I would find the perfect outfit and accessories that I wanted her to wear tonight.

About the Author:

What do you say about yourself? Aren't we supposed to write these in third person? Oh well, here I go!

I have been writing and reading since I was able to pick up a pen and read a book. I can't even begin to list the amounts of book that I've devoured over the course of my life; from the Babysitter's Club to R.L.Stein to the classics and the novels of my degrees. I have spent countless hours between the covers of classics during my undergraduate and graduate degrees from Western Connecticut State University, resulting in a BA English: Comparative Literature and a MA English: Professional Writing.

Recently, I have been focusing both my writings and my readings in erotica, BDSM and contemporary romance. And no, Fifty Shades of Grey did not get me on the BDSM bandwagon. If anything it opened the idea up more to me, but alas I have my own opinions on the trilogy.

I am trying to focus my writings on the emotional aspects of the erotic world, the emotional bondage of BDSM. I am interested in what makes people want to be dominant or submissive, the connection, etc. But I do like to read about a good flogging and bondage story too, the smuttier the better. :)
